This introductory course is designed for those who are technically minded and familiar with computers.
Based on Linux SUSE it will cover most of powerful features of Linux Operating System.
It will focus on the text interface, covering advanced use of the bash shell, some useful commands, file permissions, networking, applications and tools, system administration and installation

| Objectives |
Upon completion of this course the students will be able to:
Understand Linux history and distributions
Install and configure hardware and software
Familiarize with Linux commands & shell scripting
Install and maintain a basic network
Implement file and system security
Understanding and running different services, with particular emphasis on the following services

This course will suit those who are technically minded and familiar with computers.
Prior experience with one of the following areas would be advantageous :
Programming
System administration
Network administration
Hardware installation and configuration

| Outline |
Most of theoretical aspects behind Linux will be covered during lectures and lab demonstration.
Each student will have the use of a PC and work on those PC will be done according to set exercises, which range from basic to advanced covering main aspects listed above.

Module 3 - Some Useful Linux Commands
Module 4 - File System and Security
Module 5 - Basic Networking and Configuration
Module 6 - Sharing data and Printer with non Linux based systems
Module 7 - APACHE basic
Module 8 - Trouble- shooting Linux based systems

Hands on activities include 10 laboratory sessions featuring :
Installing software and packages
Linux Commands and shell scripting
Creating user accounts and groups
File and Users permission
Fabricating cables and identify different network hardware
Implementing a network
Trouble shooting connectivity problems
Installation and configuration of hardware
Install and configure SAMBA server
Install and run APACHE

| Exam Information |
There will be no final exam.
Each student will be assessed by continuous assessment by his tutor.
Students can go for CompTIA Linux + certification by preparing themselves according to their objectives, which can be downloaded from the CompTIA website (www.comptia.org.uk).
